About Us

Hello, we’re Micheka and Jon and we live in London, Ontario where we are pursuing our respective careers in the fields of forensic engineering and transportation engineering.

Since 2009, we’ve travelled to Europe seven times – for backpacking, for lounging, to get married / honeymoon, to cruise, and to have family time! In 2023-2024, we return for our family sabbatical year!

Follow along as we continue our journey!

Ohrid Encore

While Greece has been on our bucket list forever, and we originally booked Struga, North Macedonia as a filler destination until we could re-enter the Schengen zone, life has a way of surprising you.  It turns out that we LOVED Struga, but Greece is average.  Within the first week of arriving in Greece, we were looking at nine weeks in […]

Area Synest

We took a day trip out to Area Synest with our new friends we made here in Greece.  I never would have found this stunning little spot if it weren’t for Stephanie!  It was a beautiful area that felt like stepping into a fairy tale.  They even played relaxing, classical music all throughout the park while you were there.  They […]

The Cave of Lakes and Greek Mountain Explorations

We are beachfront on the Gulf of Corinth where we are staying.  However, immediately to the south of us are mountains galore.  This is part of why it takes forever to go around Greece to explore the various ancient sites as we regularly need to go up and over or around the mountains.  We have taken several day trips out […]

Gulf of Corinth Explorations

We are staying on the south side of the Gulf of Corinth.  We are about halfway between Patras and Corinth.  We have done some trips east along the coast to Corinth and west along the coast to Patras.  Overall, we are happy with the location along this stretch that we chose to stay in, just on the outskirts of Derveni, […]

Greeking Out, Part 1

A fabulous find from our Worldschooling group this year is a podcast called Greeking Out which is all about Greek Mythology.  We have listened to the entire series and are sad we are at the point where we are only listening week by week now as the new episodes come out.  We have learned so much about Greek mythology.  There […]

Athena Vs Poseidon

Long ago, there was a battle between the gods.  Well, many battles, but one specifically I’m referring to here.  Who should be the patron god of Athens?  Given the name of the city, I think we can all guess the outcome of the competition!  But, legend has it that Poseidon made his offer to the people, which included salt water.  […]

Walking Back In Time Amongst Gods and Greats

We have been throwing ourselves into learning about culture and history everywhere we go.  In Macedonia, we started listening to a non-fiction audiobook about the life and times of Alexander the Great as a family.  We all found the information interesting.  We finished the book in our first two days in Greece, as we happened to be touring around Northern […]

Living it Up in Ohrid

Ohrid was definitely bigger, busier, and pricier than Struga itself, though still so very affordable from a Canadian perspective!  We decided early in our accommodation search that Ohrid was too big of a city for us to want to stay there, opting for the smaller Struga.  And while we LOVED doing day trips to Ohrid, which we did many times, […]

History and Culture in Ohrid

Ohrid is the main city on, you guessed it, Lake Ohrid!  It is a much bigger city than Struga with a population of a little over 50,000; three times the population of Struga.  It’s also much older than Struga, which means there is sooooo much more history to see and experience here.  We made many trips to Ohrid to explore […]

St Noam’s Monastery, Springs, and Bay of Bones

Based on another Valentina tip, we did a fantastic day trip down to the south of Lake Ohrid to check out St Noam’s Monastery.  We parked in the lot and walked into the beautiful arched entrance to the tree-lined walkway.  Off to the side of this were tons of stalls of local crafters selling their wares.  We stopped and looked […]
