About Us

Hello, we’re Micheka and Jon and we live in London, Ontario where we are pursuing our respective careers in the fields of forensic engineering and transportation engineering.

Since 2009, we’ve travelled to Europe seven times – for backpacking, for lounging, to get married / honeymoon, to cruise, and to have family time! In 2023-2024, we return for our family sabbatical year!

Follow along as we continue our journey!

🎵🎵🎵 Up Above the Bay… of Kotor

The Bay of Kotor is surrounded by a minimal stretch of flat space before being surrounded by mountains.  The mountains are steep and impressive looking.  You can hike up to the top in some areas, some areas are accessible by a road and/or cable car, and some are completely inaccessible. The first hike up above the Bay that we did […]

🎵🎵🎵 Down by the Bay… of Kotor

The Bay of Kotor is gorgeous, and all around the entire perimeter, you find cute town after cute town.  Most are incredibly tiny, some with no amenities, just houses.  But some are slightly bigger and have a restaurant or two.  Once you get further away from Kotor, you find other larger towns, as well.  We wanted to get out and […]

Cute Kotor

We were originally supposed to spend five weeks inside the walls in Kotor.  Due to the last-minute cancellation by our host, we needed to pivot.  We managed to find somewhere to stay here for two weeks, and then move on to Budva for the following three weeks. For the second time this year, we got to spend time with family!  […]

Milan to Montenegro Part 2: Croatia

After our morning in Trieste, we headed to Croatia.  By the time we got into Zadar, where we booked three nights, Emmeline was very low energy.  We walked into the old town for dinner, hoping she was just run down from a couple of long travel days.  She woke up the next morning with a fever.  While he didn’t have […]

Milan to Montenegro Part 1: Italy

We flew from Marrakech to Milan, where we picked up our lease buy-back car we will have now until the end of July.  We have mostly relied on public transport and our own two feet most of this year so far, except for 1.5 months over the winter when we rented a vehicle for Germany and Spain.  We decided having […]

Farewell Marrakech!

Three weeks flew by in Morocco.  During this year away, we normally don’t eat out in restaurants much or do big tours.  We are trying to live a more authentic lifestyle, not have a fancy 14-month-long vacation.  Which, to be honest, would bankrupt us!  We aim to experience living in other countries.  We don’t just go to new places and […]

What an Hour!

I absolutely adore argan oil.  I use it daily on my face.  And while we made three 100 mL bottles during our cooking class experience, I decided that wasn’t enough.  I wanted to grab two more bottles before we left.  We went out on our last evening, shortly after 5:00 pm, to walk over and buy it.  While buying it, […]

The Cats of Marrakech

If you do not like cats, then never visit Marrakech!  I think there’s a strong possibility there are more cats than people living in this city.  The number of street cats you see literally everywhere is astounding.  On the other hand, if you’re a cat lover, then Marrakech is a great place!  Well, sort of. My children utterly adore animals, […]

Sunset Over the Sahara

While seeing all the interesting and beautiful sights on our way to and from Merzouga was wonderful, the main purpose of our trip was to visit and camp in the Sahara Desert.  Although I’m not sure if what we did would qualify in any world as “camping” when our desert camp was so luxurious.  Even glamping doesn’t seem to do […]

Kasbahs and Movie Sets

We took a private four-day trip from Marrakech out to the Sahara Desert.  A bit of a splurge, but we wanted to do the tour at our pace and schedule, rather than being at the mercy of a bigger group.  It’s a 10-hour drive each way, so we only got to spend one-night camping in the desert.  But that time […]
